Pawtucket is located in Providence County, Rhode island and is the fourth largest city in

Built in 1793 by Samuel Slater, Slater Mill is the first successful cotton­spinning factory 

in America and still stands today. Since the early 1950’s, Slater Mill has been used as a

is home to the Pawtucket Red Sox—the Minor League team of the Boston Red 

Sox—that play in the city’s McCoy Stadium. The longest professional baseball game in 

history was played at the stadium in 1981 when Pawtucket beat the Rochester Red 

Wings after 33 innings.

Pawtucket also has a vibrant art scene and the city prides itself in making it an “artist 

friendly environment.” The city offers grants that are available to local artists and has a 

yearly Arts Festival and Arts Marketplace that showcase their work. Residents and 

visitors can also enjoy some music at The Met—Pawtucket’s mid­sized club that has a 

variety of musicians and bands in genres like rock, punk, blues and folk.
